P.S. Talking about getting creative, have you seen the YouTube video that Elkie Holland created earlier today (before the announcement). If you carry out interviews on a regular basis I am sure you will recognise some of these “Interview Faux Pas”

Mobile and Video In Recruitment Conference Announced
Posted on 27. Jul, 2010 by admin.
I am pleased to announce a brand new Conference as part of our growing range of Events and Conferences.
The 28th September 2010 will see the first ever Mobile and Video in Recruitment Conference in London at the Hotel Russell.
Mobile
Gone are the days where you could only view a web site on your PC or laptop. Today there are many different internet enabled devices which means that job seekers can view details about your company and vacancies anytime, anywhere and practically on any device. If you add to that the fact that the Mobile Internet will shortly account for more than 50% of all internet access in the UK then it is time for forward thinking companies to start thinking seriously about how to incorporate mobile as part of their recruitment marketing strategy.
Video
Until recently the majority of recruitment advertising was text based. However, with the increased availability of broadband access (and faster speeds) it has never been easier to view videos through a mobile device, laptop or PC. Video can say so much more than text and people are five times as likely to retain information from what they see and hear as opposed to just reading. By utilising online video to compliment their existing recruitment marketing activities there is a great opportunity for Recruiters to promote their company and vacancies and gain a competitive advantage at the same time.
Conference Programme
The Conference programme, which will feature an excellent mixture of leading industry speakers, case studies and an interactive discussion panel, will be published on the Mobile & Video In Recruitment web site: www.MobileandVideoinRecruitment.com . By the end of the conference delegates will have learnt the impact that mobile and video is currently having in recruitment, how it will develop in the future and how they can start to implement mobile and video strategies to gain an advantage in their own business.
Mobile & Video can no longer be considered as a passing fad. They are both very much here to stay and will play a big part in recruitment, now and in the future. So join us on the 28th September 2010 to find out how your company can benefit from using Mobile & Video in Recruitment.

Facebook Reaches 500 Million Users
Posted on 22. Jul, 2010 by admin.
Facebook has now reached 500 million users. That’s an incredible figure for an idea that started back in 2004.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, recently said “We are building toward a web where the default is social.”
500 million users is a massive figure. So is the figure of 2 billion videos a day that YouTube serves.
What is clear is that social media is having a massive impact on the way that people communicate and consume messages. No longer are people reliant on a PC or laptop to receive messages, with mobile playing a major part in the popularity of sites like Facebook.
Looking at the growth in mobile when was the last time you looked at how your recruitment web site was seen through a mobile device? Are you pleased with what you see? If not, then what do you think job seekers will think?

Using Online Video In Recruitment
Posted on 14. Jul, 2010 by admin.

How To Create Your Own Video
I have been asked on a number of occasions about the type of video camera I use and how I put my videos on Social Media In Recruitment web site. As a result I have written a short article (published below) which explains the equipment that I use.
From talking to people is seems that one of the reasons online video has been slow to take off in recruitment is that people thought it was too complicated and expensive? Is that your experiience? Please let me know by commenting below after the article.
I thought I would share with you the equipment that I personally use so you can see real examples of videos on the web.
There are lots of video cameras out there but you can get a handheld pocket HD camcorder for just over a £100. Don’t be mislead by the price as a few years ago a HD camera recording this level of quality would have cost thousands of pounds!

I personally use the Kodak Zi8 HD Pocket Video Camera which importantly has an audio input jack which means you can connect an external microphone (which you can’t do with many other pocket video cameras).
You can see some examples of the video quality by looking at some video interviews I did prior to the Social Media In Recruitment Conference this year: http://www.socialmediainrecruitment.com/2010/03/01/using-twitter-in-recruitment/
Uploading Your Videos
Once you have recorded your video you need to have an account with YouTube so that you can upload your video. You can also have your own YouTube channel which is free. Here is the link to my channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/socialmediarec
Another advantage of the Kodak Zi8 video camera is that you can plug your video camera straight into your computer using the built-in USB connector and upload the video straight to YouTube.
YouTube will host your videos for free and send you free traffic. However you will also want to consider hosting the video on your own web site as well.
Editing Your Video
If you wanted to edit your video prior to uploading it then there are a range of video editing options available. Video editing software allows you to add graphics, branding and special effects to the video, plus take out any mistakes you may have made during the recording.
I personally use the Sony Movie Studio HD 10 Platinum (PC edition) video editing software which I find very straightforward to use.
Summary
There will always be a place for traditional video companies to make videos for you if you wanted to outsource your video production. However, if you did want to look at producing your own videos then you now have a list of affordable equipment to help you get started!
